Understanding the difference between a term used in the code verses a term that is used in the field is essential to passing your exam.
Can you find the answer to the following question?
Which NEC article governs the installation of plug mold in a warehouse?
If you chose plug mold as the key word-you’re right, but you won’t find this key word in either the table of contents or the index of your NEC code book. Why? Because while plug mold is a common term used in the field, the code uses the term fixed multi-outlet assemblies. Interestingly you won’t find a direct reference to fixed multi outlet assemblies in the index either.
You’ll need to do some deductive reasoning to realize that ultimately this is a branch circuit calculation question. Look under “branch circuits” and then “calculation of loads.” You’ll be directed to Part II of Article 220. Then scan the article until you find a reference to fixed multi outlet assemblies at Article 220.14(H).
Since there is no reason to the believe that appliances will be used simultaneously in a warehouse Article 220.14(H)(1) would apply.
