Electrical Exam Test Taking Tips

Electrical Exam Test Taking Tips

Most of us don’t take exams on a regular basis,  so it is very easy to run out of time prior to finishing the exam. Here are some test taking tips that can help you manage your time and increase your chances of passing your electrical exam on the first try!

Test Taking Tip #1 – Be Prepared!

Make sure you are properly prepared. Guesswork won’t get you to the finish line, but careful preparation will. The only way to be properly prepared for this exam is to become comfortable with the codes and calculations you’ll need to know to get a passing score.

Test Taking Tip #2 – Pay attention!

Pay close attention to instructions given prior to the start of your examination. Make sure you know how long you’ll have to complete the exam and what references you are permitted to use.

Test Taking Tip #3 – Create and stick to your strategy

Devise a strategy for completing the exam in the allotted time.  For example if you’re taking a 100 question exam and have four hours to complete it you have no more than 2.4 minutes to answer each question-if you spend the same amount of time on each question. Since there will be questions that will require more time to answer than others, work to answer the easiest questions first, then answer those that will take more time. That way you won’t miss out on answering easy questions because of having run out of time.

Test Taking Tip #4 - Read questions carefully

Reduce mistakes by reading each question carefully the first time. You can only choose the correct answer if you understand the question.

Test Taking Tip #5 - Get adequate sleep prior to the exam

The night before the exam is not the time to pull an “all nighter.” Lack of sleep increases anxiety, diminishes the ability to concentrate and apply what you’ve learned in preparation for the exam.
