No matter how knowlegable, experienced or skilled an electrician may be, the earning potential of licensed electricians will always outpace that of unlicensed electricians. As pandemic restrictions continue to ease the demand for licensed electricians is increasing exponentially.
The only way to position yourself to benefit from the opportunities of tomorrow is to prepare for those opportunities today. Passing your electrical exam and pulling your own permits is a realistic, reachable goal. Careful, targeted preparation is the key to acheiving a passing score on your exam.
Ready to pass your electrical exam? Can you answer the following question with ease?
Question:
Find the feeder demand for a service supplying a 12 kW electric space heater-240 volt single-phase and a 7.5 hp air conditioner 240 volt single-phase, if the optional method of calculation is used?
Solution:
9600 volt-amps.
The key to answering this question correctly is understanding the difference between the general verses the optional method of dwelling service calculation, and understanding that since these are dissimilar loads and are not likely to be in operation simultanously, NFPA 70 allows the smaller of the two to be omitted. To determine which is the larger of the two loads both loads would have to be in the same unit of measure. Also any demands or reductions as specified in Article 220.82 would need to be applied to each load prior to determining which load could be kept or omitted from the caluclation.
